Breadcrumbs about the Celtics' 2025-26 slate have recently trickled out. Boston isn't playing on opening night, a development that should come as no surprise as they enter what projects to be a gap year. However, the franchise will be a part of NBA history -- of sorts.
Throughout next season, Amazon will air Friday night doubleheaders. The inaugural, opening week edition will begin with a playoff rematch between the Celtics and the New York Knicks.
The second half of Prime Video's first Friday night NBA doubleheader is also pitting two of last season's playoff opponents against each other. LeBron James, Luka Doncic, and the Los Angeles Lakers will square off with Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Boston also recently found out its Emirates NBA Cup schedule. The league's original monarchy is in Group B in the Eastern Conference. The team's pool play competitors are the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, Philadelphia 76ers, and Brooklyn Nets.
Group Play begins for the Celtics with a rivalry clash against the Sixers in "The City of Brotherly Love." That matchup will take place Oct. 31 and air on Prime Video.
They'll head to Orlando to face the Magic, Boston's first-round playoff opponent last season, on Nov. 7.
Two weeks later, on Nov. 21, the Celtics will host the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden. Nov. 26, they'll play the Pistons on the parquet.
NBA Board of Governors approves Celtics sale
Thursday, the NBA's board of governors officially approved the sale of the Celtics to a group led by Bill Chisholm. Expect the transaction to close soon.

That comes a day after the news of a slight change of plans. Instead of staying on as the organization's lead governor, Wyc Grousbeck will do so as alternate governor and CEO through 2028.
Chisholm will become the franchise's majority owner when this $6.1 billion sale becomes official. Now he will also take on the role of lead governor.
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that the rearrangement of their initial agreement is the result of league rules. Because Grousbeck will own slightly less than 15 percent of the Celtics moving forward, he cannot be their lead governor.
What this doesn't change, according to Shelburne, is that the two plan to run the team together as they originally planned.
