The Maine Celtics, the Boston Celtics’ G League organization, announced on Twitter that they have signed Robert Woodard II to a contract. Woodard spent last season with the Memphis Hustle and Delaware Blue Coats but hasn’t played in the G League yet this season. Maine signed him from the available players pool. The addition comes not long after they brought Keon Johnson on board at the end of November.
Last season, Woodard appeared in 38 G League games between both organizations, playing 20.7 minutes per contest. He averaged 7.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while shooting 37.0% from the field and 27.6% from deep on 3.5 three-point attempts per contest.
Now, he’ll be suiting up in Portland.

Woodard is 26 years old and played two years of college ball at Mississippi State before leaving to join the NBA. He’s a 6-foot-7 forward.
He was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the No. 40 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft but was traded to the Sacramento Kings on draft night. He only appeared in 25 NBA games across two seasons with the Kings from 2020 to 2022.

Starting in his rookie season, Woodard has suited up for five different G League teams: The Austin Spurs, the Stockton Kings, the Oklahoma City Blue, the Hustle, and the Blue Coats. He left to play international ball in 2023.
Prior to returning to the G League for the 2024-25 campaign, Woodard spent a season overseas during the 2023-24 season. He played for French club ADA Blois and Greek club Maroussi.
That season overseas, Woodard appeared in 32 games (17 with ADA Blois and 15 with Maroussi). He averaged 9.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.2 steals while shooting 44.8% from the floor and 33.0% from distance on 3.3 three-point attempts per game.
Though Woodard’s stats don’t jump off the page, he churned out some solid seasons during his early years in the G League.
During his rookie season (2020-21), Woodard played 31.2 minutes across 12 appearances. He averaged 16.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 41.5% from the field and 21.3% from deep on 3.9 three-point attempts.
Woodard will join a Maine team that has been rolling through the early portion of the season. After a 1-2 start to the season, Maine ripped off a nine-game win streak (though they’ve dropped their last two games).
He should be able to carve out a nice role behind Celtics two-way players Ron Harper Jr., Max Shulga, and Amari Williams.
