Round 1 of the 2025 NBA Draft, now a two-day event, is precisely a week away. As the Boston Celtics continue carrying out their preparations, Hardwood Houdini is tracking every prospect workout they hold. The list also comes equipped with scouting reports.
According to HoopsHype, the 18-time NBA champions recently conducted a pre-draft workout with Jaxson Robinson. Like many of the prospects Boston has hosted, the former Kentucky Wildcat is coming off his senior campaign.
Robinson is a six-foot-six wing. He averaged 13 points in his lone season in Lexington. The Oklahoma native knocked down 37.6 percent of the 6.9 threes he hoisted. That captures what he does best on the basketball court: shoot.
In an era where many collegiate basketball players are extending their NCAA careers beyond four years and hopping around from one university to another, Robinson played for four teams in five years.
The 24-year-old sharpshooter started his collegiate career at Texas A&M. He then transferred to the University of Arkansas. After that, Robinson left the Southeastern Conference [SEC], taking his talents to Brigham Young University [BYU]. There, he earned Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year in 2024.
After two seasons in Provo, Utah, Robinson returned to the SEC, following head coach Mark Pope to the University of Kentucky. There, he emerged as one of the best three-point shooters in the conference.
At the other end of the floor, Robinson's a versatile defender. His length and instincts are the driving forces behind that. His wingspan stretches over six-foot-11. The former Wildcat also processes plays quickly, getting out to challenge shots and jump passing lanes.
At 192 pounds, he could stand to add muscle responsibly. Fortunately, that figures to happen to a meaningful enough extent at the professional level.
Jaxson Robinson's draft range
The Celtics have hosted numerous prospects projected to go near the end of the draft or players that pundits believe won't hear their names called.
Robinson is in that draft range. He suffered a season-ending wrist injury in February, requiring surgery. According to Duane Rankin of Arizona Central, along with Boston, he has visited the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors. He will also or already has worked out for the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Celtics enter this year's draft with picks No. 28 and 32. If a trade leads to them selecting late in the second round, this author's preference would be Ryan Nembhard, among other potential candidates who might still be on the board.
But if Robinson goes undrafted, he's worth teams bringing in for Summer League and training camp. In that scenario, it becomes a matter of his best offers and where he thinks he can make the most favorable impression. That goes for who he signs with and the rest of the NBA.
