It's understandable for anyone to disagree with the Boston Celtics' decisions this offseason. However, for everything that bred controversy, they can take solace in the fact that it could be so much worse. They could be the Los Angeles Clippers.
They say when it rains, it pours. Well, for the Clippers, it's flooding. They lost Kawhi Leonard, they have lost their draft capital for the immediate future, and now, it's come out that Brandon Ingram was playing on a partially torn Achilles. And guess what? The Celtics could benefit big time from this disaster.
Okay, so how could this get any worse? Well, even if the Clippers are at rock bottom, what can make the situation even more insufferable is the confirmation that despite where they are, they absolutely had the right idea when they acquired Kawhi Leonard.
Well, the Celtics basically get the chance to prove that they did with the pairing of Jayson Tatum and Paul George. LA believed pairing two of the NBA's best wings was the key to bringing home a championship.
The furthest their teams with Leonard and George was the Western Conference Finals, it was once, and Leonard got hurt before that. At firs glance, it looks bad, but those teams fell apart a lot of the time because of injuries.
So if we see Tatum and George thrive together as teammates, it's only more evidence that the Clippers had the right idea back in 2019, which will make their disappointing results all the harder to process.
If Tatum & George thrive, it simply proves fate ruined the Clippers
Now, of course, we don't have to be delusional about this. George is 36 now, and likely won't take the same load he did when he was playing for his hometown. However, with seemingly no minutes restriction, there's a solid chance he and Tatum could thrive together.
George isn't as talented as Jaylen Brown is, but the fit between the two of them could be good enough to compensate for their lower ceiling as a duo. If that's what happens, it shows that the Clippers' vision was never wrong in the first place. Two wings that do a bit of everything? Los Angeles had this idea, and they even had the younger version of one of the two!
Not to rub it in, but with a team basically being battered and bruised, Boston has a hilarious chance to basically kick dirt in their eyes. It's not like this is what the Celtics want to do, but at a time like this where the Clippers have had one of the rarest and sharpest falls from grace the NBA has ever seen, more pain could be ahead of them.
