Former Boston Celtics guard Carsen Edwards has carved out a new career for himself playing overseas, and he has emerged as one of the top stars in Europe. For the past two seasons, Edwards has been dominating the international scene, where he has been playing since the 2022-23 campaign.

Edwards was originally drafted by the Celtics with the No. 33 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He spent two seasons in Boston and one with the Detroit Pistons before leaving the NBA after the 2021-22 season. Now, he’s playing in Europe, earning more minutes than he ever did at the NBA level.

And he’s turned himself into an absolute star.

How is Carsen Edwards playing?

When Edwards first got to the Celtics, many people expected big things from him. A monster preseason game against the Cleveland Cavaliers only heightened those expectations, turning Edwards into an early fan-favorite in Boston.

Unfortunately, the hype of that lone preseason game never converted to on-court production, and Edwards wrapped up his two-year Celtics career having only appeared in 68 games, playing 9.2 minutes per contest.

As for his stint in Detroit, Edwards only played four games for the Pistons during the 2021-22 campaign, and after that, his time in the NBA came to an end.

However, ever since jumping the Atlantic Ocean over to Europe, Edwards has found new basketball life, and he’s currently dominating for Virtus Bologna.

So far this season, Edwards has appeared in 20 games, playing 24.2 minutes per contest. He is averaging 16.9 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.3 assists while shooting 42.7% from the field and 36.9% from deep on 7.9 three-point attempts per contest.

Plus, his 18.3 points per game in EuroLeague action is good for the third-leading mark across the entire competition so far this season.

When Edwards first went over to Europe, he got off to a slow start. He spent time with Fenerbahce Beko but didn’t really start to take off until he got to Bayern Munich for the 2023-24 season.

He spent two years with the club, and in his second season, he averaged a whopping 18.6 points per game across all competitions.

Now with Virtus Bologna, Edwards has firmly established himself as one of the top scorers in Europe, and based on how his career at Purdue went, that’s not a hard reality to imagine.

Celtics fans may still be dreaming about the guy who nailed eight threes in a single preseason quarter against the Cavs, and while that player may not have taken form in the green and white, he did in Europe.
