The Boston Celtics recently signed Gabe McGlothan to a training camp contract. Keith Smith of Spotrac reported the acquisition.
The former Indiana Pacers forward impressed in the G League last season. He averaged 15.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and nearly 1.0 steals for Indiana's affiliate, the Noblesville Boom. A reliable long-range shooter, McGlothan attempted 4.2 threes per game and made 42.3 percent.
That earned him a contract with the parent club in December. Unfortunately, that only lasted for a few days. It also didn't include the chance to make his NBA debut.
There's a good chance that the six-foot-six McGlothan will join a loaded Maine Celtics team this season. He will earn a bonus that could increase to $91,000 if he plays 60 days with the team's G League affiliate. For now, he adds to an impressive list of players coming to training camp at the Auerbach Center on Exhibit 10 deals.
Who else did the Celtics sign to an Exhibit 10 deal?
The headliner from this group is Devin Carter. In this author's opinion, he is the favorite to land Boston's final two-way deal. The former lottery pick now gets to work in an elite player development program, with a strong track record of helping shooters improve. It's an ideal infrastructure to elevate his career trajectory.
Then, there's Milos Uzan. The former Houston Cougar will compete with Carter for that last two-way pact. The six-foot-four guard impressed with the Sin City C's at Summer League. It shows that he's the son of a coach. He kept the offense organized and minimized turnovers. He's also a good shooter from beyond the arc. And he's a good defender. That's a prerequisite for playing for his collegiate coach, Kelvin Sampson.
Uzan could earn a two-way deal elsewhere, or prefer an opportunity with another franchise's G League affiliate. However, keeping him in the organization and continuing to work with him would be a nice win for the Celtics. It should be for Uzan too.
Tucker DeVries, who was a teammate of Uzan's at Summer League, is also with Boston on an Exhibit 10 deal. The six-foot-seven wing is an intriguing sharpshooter who projects to help Maine contend for the club's first G League championship.
Caleb Grill and Hank Morgan are also with the Celtics on Exhibit 10 contracts. As is Hayden Gray. The latter set Maine's single-season steals record last season before leaving for an opportunity with the Utah Jazz. Now, he returns as part of arguably the most impressive list of players any NBA team has coming to training camp on Exhibit 10 deals.
