Boston is boringly great.

Through their first two games of the 2024-25 NBA season, the Boston Celtics have looked incredible. They kicked off their season with a huge win over the New York Knicks on Opening Night and followed it up with a 20-point victory against the Washington Wizards. They have a point differential of 21.5.

Obviously, not every game the Celtics play in will be a blowout, and the Wizards are projected to be toward the bottom of the NBA. But the Knicks aren’t. In fact, heading into the year, the Knicks were projected to be Boston’s biggest competition. Obviously, they’re due for some growing pains, but the discrepancy on Opening Night was crazy.

Most of all, however, in just two games, the Celtics have proven one wild truth that sounds insane to say out loud.

They might be the most boring team in the NBA. Boringly great. It sounds ridiculous, but it's true.

The Celtics are so good that it's boring (for non-Celtics fans)

Now, the definition of boring, in this case, has nothing to do with the talent on the floor. From a pure basketball perspective, the Celtics are incredibly fun to watch. The way they play the game on both ends of the court is mesmerizing.

From their ball movement and knock-down shooting on offense to their flurry of defensive schemes perfected by a group of elite defenders. But that’s not what every NBA fan wants at all times.

The NBA and most of its fans want close games. They want drama. They want entertaining matchups that come down to the wire. This Celtics team may not have many of those.

Sure, when the Denver Nuggets or Oklahoma City Thunder come to town, there could be some amazing battles, but for the most part, the Celtics are built to blow teams out of the water.

And considering they play in the Eastern Conference, Boston could be primed for a ton of blowout wins. If they play the right way and stick to their brand of basketball, which they should, they could be historically great.

They won 64 games last year, and now they have a year of team chemistry under their belt. Despite being forced to play without Kristaps Porzingis for a couple of months, they may win even more games this season, and likely in blowout fashion.

So, basketball-wise, the Celtics will be awesome. But from the perspective of fun and entertainment, it could be a very boring season for anyone who doesn’t root for the guys in green.

They’re just that good.
