It’s been a busy(ish) 24 hours for the Boston Celtics. The team has now made its third roster move in that timeframe, according to Spotrac’s Keith Smith, who reports that they’ve signed Hason Ward to an Exhibit-10 contract. The move comes after the Celtics waived RJ Luis Jr. and moved Ron Harper Jr. to a two-way deal.

Exhibit 10 deals are a common way for NBA teams to sweeten the deal when they add players to their G-League rosters. Technically, Ward is signed to a non-guaranteed NBA contract, which offers him a bonus if he is waived and signed to the Maine Celtics.

Maine is a familiar place for Ward, who spent plenty of time at the Portland Expo last year. The 25-year-old forward appeared in 34 games for the G-League Cs last season, averaging 8.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, and 1.4 assists per game.

Hason Ward is likely back for a second year with the Maine Celtics

The Barbados native made a lasting impression in his rookie G-League campaign, showing the organization enough promise to bring him back for another year.

Ward left Barbados and moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, as he went into high school. Last fall, he shared how exciting it was for him to be able to join the Celtics after adopting them as his team as a teenager.

“When I first got here, I didn't have [any] favorite teams for real, but I always had favorite players,” Ward told Hardwood Houdini in November of 2024. “But definitely, when I first moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, and I started playing basketball on a real team structure, and I knew I had the potential to make it somewhere far, the Boston Celtics [were] definitely my [home team]. Like, I want to be on that team. That's the perfect fit.”

More than anything else, Ward projects as a small-ball five, though he’s listed as a forward. He’s an athletic shot-blocker who loves to throw down a loud dunk on the offensive end.

“Oh yeah, that's always a goal, for sure,” Ward said of his love for dunking. “Anything that I can dunk, I'm gonna dunk it, for sure. But yeah, that goal is definitely still on the top of my list. And just to take advantage of every opportunity I have and play hard, man.”

Though nothing is confirmed just yet, Ward should have another chance to spend the year in Maine working on his game. He carried himself with the right mindset last season and now has the right blueprint to continue on his path to NBA success.
