Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce is a man of his word. The Truth put his Thursday commute to work on the line ahead of Game 2. He vowed that he'd walk the entire 20 miles to the Fox Sports studio in Los Angeles if the Celtics somehow lost to the New York Knicks for a second time.
“If the Celtics lose Game 2 at home, I’m walking [to work] tomorrow, 15 miles! In my robe, no shoes on, barefoot… I guarantee it," he said Wednesday afternoon. "Put the house on this game. No way we lose.”
Well, unfortunately for me, you, and Paul the Celtics did it again. They fell behind 0-2 in the Eastern Conference Semifinals after dropping a second game at TD Garden. When the final buzzer went off, Pierce posted a screenshot of the more-than eight-hour walk he would have to take the next day.
It turns out that it was going to be 20 miles instead of the 15 that he thought it would be when he made the promise on the air.
Pierce's walk consisted of selfies, requests for fans to bring him water, and a cameo from Kevin Garnett
Not only did Pierce deliver on his promise, but he also provided proof for any doubters on the internet. Throughout his long trek to the studio, he posted hourly updates on Instagram and, unlike the Celtics, they did not disappoint.
About an hour and a half into the journey he passed the four-mile mark and shared this clip to let everyone know that the sun had caught up to him and he was starting to sweat out on the sidewalk.
In a later update, Pierce got a visit from his old Celtic teammate and good friend, Kevin Garnett. Garnett popped his head out of his SUV as he drove by Pierce and told him to "wear a seatbelt" and to be careful on his way to work.
A walk of biblical proportions like this one wasn't going to come without its hardships. Pierce was thirsty and starving when he was about five miles away from the studio and was asking any fans who saw him to bring him some water.
He caught a nice breather when he stopped to take a selfie with a couple of kids on the street.
Pierce was met with a welcoming party when he finally reached the end of his stroll. There was a group of his coworkers and others with cameras waiting for him outside of the Fox studios.
They even gave him a wheelchair so he could rest his legs after the strenous feat.
Pierce said that he won't be making any other promises like the one he did on Wednesday, but he's still holding out hope that the Celtics will make this a series.
