Former Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday and Nike are releasing some new sneakers with a sweet design later this month, according to Nice Kicks on X. The Air Zoom G.T. Cut 3 “Celtics” will feature a cream colored base, a white heel, gray tongue, a green “Swoosh” logo and accent designs, and a black square with Holiday’s Celtics No. 4 on the side.

The shoe is one that’ll be towards the top of Celtics fans’ wishlists; it just dropped a little late. It’s pretty ironic that the sneaker will hit the shelves roughly two months after Boston traded Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers. Like, is he going to wear it at Moda Center when he makes his Blazers debut later this year? Maybe it’ll be a nice hat tip for the veteran guard to wear the shoe when he and Portland make their lone trip to TD Garden next season.

Holiday left a lasting legacy with the Celtics worthy of a sneaker

Though the release is poorly timed, the sneaker itself was probably still worth making. Holiday will forever have a place in Celtic history after helping the franchise raise its 18th NBA Championship banner to the rafters last fall.

He served as a personification of the team’s identity in the title season, joining just before training camp, and seamlessly fitting in. When a squad adds talented players in the same summer like Boston did with Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis, there can be growing pains. Guys have to adjust to their new fit within the team, rather than just being “the guy” as they once were.

Holiday had already done this while playing alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks, but he took on an even more diluted role with the Cs. You would’ve never been able to tell by how effortlessly he gelled with his teammates.

Despite taking the fewest shots since his rookie season, the two-time All-Star remained efficient and engaged on both ends of the floor. When the situation called for Holiday to step up, he’d have no problem doing so, even if it had been a few games since he had to carry any offensive burden.

His ability to shapeshift made Holiday extremely valuable to the Celtics, and it’s something he hopes to continue doing with the Blazers.

“I think I play every position,” he said via The Rose Garden Report last Tuesday. “I’ve proven that and shown that throughout my career. I’m a complete basketball player. You can’t put one position on someone, the way the game is changing now. Guys who have never played point guard are coming into the league and playing point guard. I’m a good fit with anyone.”
