The Boston Celtics dropped their game to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night, marking their last game for almost a week. It will give everyone on a team a nice break just a couple of months into the season, but that’s not the way some players like to roll. Some players want to play as much as possible.

One of those guys is Jordan Walsh. The second-year wing has played at various points in Boston throughout the year after spending most of his rookie campaign up in Maine. But with the Celtics’ upcoming time off, Walsh decided he wanted to get in some extra run.

He wanted to go back to Maine.

Jordan Walsh asked to play in G League

Walsh played in the G League on Sunday afternoon, and after the game, he revealed that he asked to be sent down to play with Maine.

“So, I actually asked if I could come down and play in this game during practice yesterday,” Walsh said. “I asked some of my PD  coaches. He was like, 'Yeah, yeah, we'll figure it out.' So then Brad called me, and he was like, 'So you want to go down?' I was like, 'Yeah, can I go play in a game real quick?' And he was like, ‘Yeah.’”

Walsh wanted to get some extra reps, as he hasn’t been in the Boston rotation much as of late.

“It just made sense,” said Walsh. “We had a couple off-days. These guys had a back-to-back. I know that maybe some of them want to rest a little bit. But more than anything, I just wanted to come play. I wanted to be active and obviously come back to the city. Go get me some food real quick. Early game. So, it just made sense for me.”

Having a guy who wants to play at all times, no matter the league or circumstances is great for the Celtics. Walsh just wants to hoop, and that’s the type of player who Boston should want to be a part of their organization.

Maine head coach Tyler Lashbrook was thrilled that Walsh wanted to play.

“I love it,” said Lashbrook. “That was exciting. It was exciting to hear that he wants to be a part of this. And he wants to play. At the end of the day, he's a basketball player. That's what these guys do. They want to play.”

As the Celtics continue to develop Walsh, his desire to play will undoubtedly be duly noted.
