Former Boston Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas could be heading overseas to play. Or at least, he’s interested in pursuing that path. When he saw that Greek Club Olympiacos is looking for a point guard for next season, he commented an eye emoji on Instagram. Perhaps he’s looking for his next landing spot playing professional basketball.

Thomas hasn’t appeared in an NBA game since the 2023-24 season, though he did play 14 games in the G League this past year with the Salt Lake City Stars. And now, after spending the last 14 years around the NBA, Thomas may be interested in jumping ship to play international ball.

And it could be very fun to watch.

What could Isaiah Thomas do overseas?

At the peak of his powers, Thomas was a cult hero in the City of Boston. When he was traded to the Celtics, fans likely didn’t think much of it. But for the next two-and-a-half years, he quickly emerged as one of the best point guards in the NBA.

Not only did Thomas blossom into an All-Star in Boston, but he also became one of the biggest fan favorites in recent memory. He’s easily one of the most popular Celtics of all time to never win a championship with the organization.

And even now, at 38 years old, he’s still capable of getting buckets at the highest of levels. Just because he hasn’t gotten an opportunity in the NBA lately doesn’t mean he can’t hoop anymore.

In his 14 G League appearances with the Stars last season, Thomas played 30.8 minutes per contest. He averaged 29.1 points, 2.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting 44.6% from the floor and 41.0% from deep on 9.6 three-point attempts.

Unfortunately, based on the last couple of years, it doesn’t seem like an NBA contract is in the cards for Thomas at this point in time. But perhaps he could test the overseas market.

Frank Ntilikina was reportedly garnering interest from Olympiacos, but maybe Thomas could find his way there as well. And if not, there could be more clubs around the globe interested in bringing the high-scoring point guard on board.

The 36-year-old may not have many years left to play basketball at the professional level, but he clearly still has something left in the tank.

So, while he won’t be returning to the Celtics, Thomas could be playing professional basketball again very soon.
