Would be ‘surprising’ to see Boston Celtics outbid Heat, Rockets for wing
It would be “surprising” to see the Boston Celtics not get outbid for the services of free agent wing Lamar Stevens by either the Miami Heat or Houston Rockets according to MassLive’s Brian Robb — who didn’t write off the possibility completely despite doubting the Cs being able to sign the former Cleveland Cavalier.
“The Heat are an interesting spot for him as they need more depth on the wing and remain in a holding pattern on Damian Lillard trade talks,” Robb prefaced before saying, “The Rockets could also use some more help on the wing in the wake of Kevin Porter Jr.’s arrest, which will likely lead to him being dealt/waived before the start of the season. Ultimately, it would not be surprising to see either of those teams give Stevens a better offer than Boston in the coming weeks but this will be a situation worth watching as the start of training camp approaches on October 2nd.”
Stevens is among a few names that have been linked to the Celtics for their final roster spot. T.J. Warren is the biggest name in the bunch, while Louis King is likely the most accessible on the free agent market.
The Boston Celtics could have their wing answer on the bench already
Boston Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens had a busy offseason already and is not in the position that either the Heat or Rockets are in. Miami has gotten little done all summer waiting on a Damian Lillard trade that seems less likely to happen by the day, while Houston just had their sixth man suspended and potentially blackballed from the league due to allegations of reprehensible behavior in his personal life. Those teams are in need of a major move ASAP.
Stevens already has Oshae Brissett, who has gone for 25 points or more several times in his career, and the six-foot-nine Dalano Banton, whose size could allow him to play some minutes on the wing as well.
It’s not the Celtics that are in dire need of making a move in this situation.
