The Dream starting 5 for the Celtics 5 years from now
By Tyler Watts
SF: Jaden McDaniels
With two elite scorers, the Celtics will want shooting and defense to round out their roster. Boston would love to add another long rangy combo forward to increase their versatility. It would allow them to switch everything and jockey the matchups as necessary.
Jaden McDaniels turns 23 before the start of training camp and continues to improve. He averaged 12.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.0 block in 30.6 minutes per game as a starter for the Timberwolves last season. The 6’9 forward shot 39.8 percent from 3-point range and blossomed into a strong 3-and-D option.
McDaniels is a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024 and will just be finishing his second contract in the 2028 offseason. If he wants out of Minnesota, it will likely happen via trade in 2026 or 2027. The Celtics could be in the market for a forward to pair with Jayson Tatum and jump at the chance to add McDaniels’ defense and shot-making.
It is a massive season for the 23-year-old. Can he take another step forward and get a massive contract as a restricted free agent or does he fall into the 3-and-D wing category that earns the mid-level exception or slightly more? He must prove last season’s shooting was real. McDaniels is a player to watch and someone who would fit nicely on the Boston Celtics if he becomes available.
