Everything you need to know about the Maine Celtics’ 2023-2024 schedule

Joe Mazzulla’s Boston Celtics are not the only team in green and white with a campaign on the horizon. The Maine Celtics, otherwise known as the “Celtics of the North” announced its 2023/2024 schedule including both the Showcase Cup and Regular Season.

A 14-game “Showcase” kicks off the season on November 10 as Maine will compete against the other seven opponents in the “East Pod”. Nine of its first 11 contests are away from the Expo, but the final five are in the comforts of Portland. Out of the four regions, eight teams will advance to the Winter Showcase, the four ball clubs at the top of their respective “pod” and the four teams with the best remaining records. Last season, the Celts made it in as the No. 8 seed, defeating the No. 1 seeded South Bay Lakers before falling short in the semifinals to the eventual winners, the Ontario Clippers.

At the resolution of the Winter Showcase, the Celts open up their regular season in Oklahoma City at the Cox Convention Center against the Oklahoma City Thunder affiliate, the OKC Blue.

Its home opener is slated on New Year’s Eve in the afternoon against the Grand Rapids Gold, a ball club Maine went 2-0 versus last time around. The Cleveland Charge, the team that took down the Celts in the postseason last year head up to New England for a two-game set beginning on January 26. Just four contests in the first month of 2024 are away from southern Maine while the final two months before the postseason feature just four games at the Expo.

Two-way players Jay Scrubb and JD Davison should be an entertaining backcourt up for Maine Celtics

After making the postseason for the first time since 2017, JD Davison, Jay Scrubb, and company have their eyes set on advancing past the quarterfinal stage this time around. Both two-way assets for the Maine Celtics finished in the top ten in at least one statistic category in 2022-2023. Scrubb netted and sat in the top-eight in points per game while Davison played the role of distributor most of the time, dishing out nearly nine assists in 31.3 minutes per regular season contest.

As of right now, most of the roster is a question mark in addition to the head coaching position. Most importantly, Brad Stevens still has the opportunity to hand out one more two-way contract with the rule change.

At the end of April, upon the conclusion of the G-League playoffs, former coach Alex Barlow returned to his alma mater, Butler University to serve as an assistant under the leader Thad Matta. As of the time of writing, there are three assistants listed on Maine’s staff, Brooks Sales, Roy Enright, and Allen Harris. Former head coach Jarrell Christian is heading into his second season as the club’s General Manager. Within the next few weeks, a decision should be made on Barlow’s replacement.
