Boston Celtics signing speaks out on team’s young reserves
Boston Celtics free agent signing Jay Scrubb, who parlayed a stint with the Summer League Cs to get a non-guaranteed contract from the front office, spoke out on some of his young teammates during an interview with Green With Envy’s Adam Taylor.
Jay Scrubb wants to make a similar impact on the Boston Celtics to Sam Hauser
Scrubb was highly complimentary of Hauser’s debut with the Celtics, claiming that he wants to make a similar impact to the sharpshooting swingman.
“It’s literally that mentality just coming in and the same way Sam did,” Scrubb prefaced before saying, “Being what the team needs coming in and being that knockdown shooter, being that guy that could come in and guard and come in and be that glue piece. It’s sort of that same mindset just coming in and being that added piece that added boost for the team. That’s the main thing.”
Jay Scrubb claims 2023 Boston Celtics draft pick Jordan Walsh is a vocal leader
Scrubb talked about how impressed he was with the vocal leadership of 19-year-old 2023 second-round Celtics draft pick Jordan Walsh — who relayed that Walsh is the type to pull a teammate aside and offer words of wisdom.
“For me, with it being my fourth year in the league and me being a younger guy, I would say his best underrated attribute to me is (that) he’s a vocal leader” shared Scrubb. “He’s 18-19 and the fact that he can come in and be that guy to where I can pull to the side and I could ask him a few things about his experience with colleges, being that I didn’t get a chance to experience (him), that I could ask him, how was your experience? And he’ll give me a well-rounded answer. So I would say just like he’s a vocal leader.”
Jay Scrubb and JD Davison have always had a good relationship
Scrubb shared that he and JD Davison had a relationship even before Scrubb joined the Summer League Celtics this past July in Las Vegas; adding that he’d love to form a formidable backcourt duo with the Alabama product.
“Yeah, me and JD, we’ve had plenty of talks,” Scrubb said. “Even when I wasn’t with the Celtics, I had come down, and we played each other in Maine and things like that. We’ve always had a great relationship, and I’m excited to be able to match up, you know what I’m saying? And be a backcourt with him, man, it’s exciting. He’s a point guard that’s a pass first. He’s a guy that likes to throw lobs and likes to get out in transition. And I’m the same way. I’m a guy that likes to run, you know what I’m saying? Get shots up quickly. And I can’t wait to get out there and be able to match our skillsets up together, man, and go out there and give some backcourts trouble.”
