Why Boston Celtics fans should not expect a title this season
Since the start of the superteam era in the NBA, the Boston Celtics are one of the few teams that have won a title right away. In 2008, the Cs won the title in the first season with the Big 3 of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen. However, other superteams have struggled to win right away, with a prime example being the Dwyane Wade/LeBron James/Chris Bosh Miami Heat team.
If you really look at the history of Super teams since the 2008 Celtics, the only good and well thought out team was the Warriors bringing in KD. Every other attempt was really just putting 3 egos together and hoping they could figure it out chemistry wise.

This current Celtics roster with a new high-powered Big Three is in a similar position as the teams mentioned above, but this Celtics team could fall on the side of the Heat. The Celtics may need a year to adjust to the new fit, and fans should keep this in mind. Ultimately, Celtics fans should not be expecting Banner 18 this season.
The Celtics during the Jayson Tatum/Jaylen Brown era have experienced roster turnover and new coaches many times. A common theme during these changes is that the team has failed to win a title in the first year with a new group. It’s not a hot take to say that the same situation could play out in the first year with Kristaps Porzingis.

The Boston Celtics made a big swing during the 2023 offseason
The Boston Celtics made a big swing, and it could take some time to readjust. I find it hard to believe that the Cs will get off to a fast start like they did last season because adjusting to a new good player is more difficult than adjusting to a new coach. If the Celtics get off to a slow start next season, it could affect their seeding come playoff time, which would make their road to the NBA Finals difficult.
The most likely scenario for the Celtics this year is that they struggle early in the year, find their footing by the playoffs, but ultimately get exposed by a more experienced team that has been together longer. Now that’s not to say that the Boston Celtics absolutely cannot win the title, because it’s very possible, but it’s probably going to take until year two with this core.
