Robert Covington, LA Clippers

Circling back to the team’s potential need at the small forward position behind Jayson Tatum, there’s another veteran 3-and-D option that could arise for the Boston Celtics heading into the NBA Trade Deadline. With the continued uncertainty that revolves around the LA Clippers, Robert Covington is another player to monitor. Covington saw his role for the Clippers diminish this past season and as he enters a contract year, he’s probably a player that should be moved before the NBA Trade Deadline.

At this point in his career, Covington is unlikely to be a full-time starter. However, he could still play a valuable role for a championship-contending team. Covington in a role behind Jayson Tatum as a backup 3 or even a small-ball 4 could be promising for the Celtics as they look to explore more ways to utilize their roster’s versatility.

The other encouraging part about possibly making a move for Covington is the fact that he won’t cost much on the open market. Especially if the Clippers end up making the move for James Harden, there’s a strong chance Covington could be on the move this season.
