Cameron Payne, San Antonio Spurs

After being traded from the Phoenix Suns to the San Antonio Spurs earlier this offseason, I don’t think it would be that surprising if we saw Cameron Payne on the move again at some point this season. As another player who is entering the final year of his current deal, considering he’s unlikely to re-sign with the Spurs after this season, San Antonio would be wise to try to cash in on this asset at, or before, the NBA Trade Deadline

If the Boston Celtics find themselves in a situation where they want to address their backup point guard position, which they may have to depending on what the team ends up doing with Payton Pritchard and in the event that Malcolm Brogdon can’t stay healthy, Payne could emerge as a potential target at the deadline.

Interestingly, Payne is a player that could fill multiple roles for the Celtics. He could be a starter if needed, but could also play in a reserve role as well. At the very least, he’s an intriguing name to keep an eye on as we enter the start of the season.
