OG Anunoby, Toronto Raptors

Another pipe dream NBA Trade Deadline candidate that could arise for the Boston Celtics is OG Anunoby. Even though the Toronto Raptors have not shown a strong willingness to trade Anunoby at this time and it seems that they would much rather move Pascal Siakam (subscription required), anything can change at any given moment. Especially considering that Anunoby has a player option for next season and there’s a strong chance he’s going to be looking to cash in on his big payday.

If the Raptors get to a point where they’d rather trade Anunoby over Siakam, due to their respective trade markets, the Celtics should absolutely get involved. They could make the money work and have the draft capital to appease the Raptors in trade talks. Working out an extension could be difficult with the big future numbers that they have on the books for Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis, but perhaps Anunoby would be a worthy gamble.

Will the Celtics make a big move at the NBA Trade Deadline? Who knows for certain? The odds probably lean toward no. However, you can never predict what may happen over the course of a season. If nothing else, the Celtics have done a great job in keeping their options open with salary and draft capital flexibility heading into this year’s NBA Trade Deadline.
