The Boston Celtics “stand a good chance” at having a healthy roster entering training camp with Al Horford withdrawing from the FIBA World Cup on behalf of the Dominican Republic and the team only having one player partake in the tournament according to CelticsBlog’s Adam Taylor.

“Nevertheless, with only one member of the roster taking part, the Celtics will stand a good chance of entering training camp with a fully healthy roster, allowing Joe Mazzulla and his coaching staff the opportunity to get the team fully acclimated with the offensive and defensive system the will be tasked with executing throughout the upcoming season,” Taylor wrote. As the CelticsBlog writer points out, Kristaps Porzingis will be the only member of Boston’s roster who will be in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia for the event.

“Kristaps Porzingis will now be the only member of the Celtics roster that will take part in the FIBA World Cup,” Taylor prefaced before saying, “Payton Pritchard was part of the Team USA select roster, but will not be traveling to the tournament. Celtics fans will remember Danilo Gallinari’s injury from last year’s EuroBasket competition and will now be keeping a close eye on Porzingis throughout the tournament, which will run between August 25 and September 10.”

Never say never when it comes to Boston Celtics injuries

The 2023 postseason run was among the only in recent memories not to have been affected by a slew of injuries. And even then, Jayson Tatum had an ankle injury in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals that may or may not have affected his performance.

Boston has long been snake-bitten, or perhaps bug-bitten, with the injury bug striking Danilo Gallinari, Robert Williams III, Jaylen Brown, Kemba Walker, Kyrie Irving, and Isaiah Thomas, to name a few, over the last six years.

While Taylor’s premise is nice, training camp is still weeks away and the team has plenty of chances to still dole out heartbreak to Celtics fans.
