Rumored Boston Celtics free agent target Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk likely wouldn’t receive a guaranteed contract from the team if he were offered in free agency according to MassLive’s Brian Robb in his latest Celtics Mailbag.

“Mykhailiuk would be a solid option for deep bench depth given his track record but I doubt the team would fully guarantee that contract until he make the team,” Robb wrote in a response to a reader.

In truth, the Celtics have no need to offer any guarantees to a player like Mykhailiuk, who is almost redundant given the presence of Sam Hauser on the roster. Trading Hauser would certainly make Mykhailiuk on a guaranteed deal make more sense, but there’s no obvious trade out there involving really any of the players at the end of Boston’s bench; such as Payton Pritchard or Luke Kornet. A low-cost player like Kenrich Williams would make sense, and a Celtics Mailbag reader even floated him, but according to Robb, the Oklahoma City Thunder likely aren’t looking to part with the $27 million forward.

Blake Griffin a ‘fallback option’ for the Boston Celtics in free agency

A good vibes reunion could take place between veteran big man Blake Griffin and the Boston Celtics if there are no preferable deals found by the C’s front office according to Robb.

“There really aren’t many vets out there I would jump on immediately with even the higher profile guys left being flawed players (Wood, Oubre, etc.),” Robb prefaced before saying, “Blake Griffin is certainly a fallback option as a final big as long as he’s out there on the market.”

Griffin played well in 16 spot starts in 2022-23, and while his role would be further minimized with Porzingis in tow and even the addition of Oshae Brissett as a combo forward, he’d be a proven locker-room leader for a team that responded well to his personality last season. Having that sort of continuity, even at the end of the bench, is typical of top teams. The Houdini isn’t sure who’d say no to Griffin bringing his act back to Beantown.
