Boston Celtics fans can finally relax and enjoy their summer as Jaylen Brown signed his contract extension on Monday morning. The All-NBA forward agreed to a five-year extension that is worth up to $304 million.

The Brown saga is finally over, but the pressure to win a title now rises.

Although locking up Brown for the future is awesome, the Celtics’ championship window has taken a hit. With the contracts of Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and the looming extension for Jayson Tatum, the Cs championship window has shrunk.

The Celtics now have a 2-3 year window with this core. With Brown, Porzingis, and Tatum firmly entering their prime, the Cs have to win a title in the next three years. Although Boston Celtics fans think Tatum and Brown will finish out their contracts, the reality of the NBA is that they won’t. The Cs will have to prepare for life after the Jays at some point during this contract.

When you dive into Brown’s contract per year, it’s hard to believe that he will finish the contract as a Celtic. Brown is slated to make $69 million in the final year of his deal, which is utterly insane. It’s crazy to think that Tatum will command more, and the final year of his deal will be much higher.

The Boston Celtics have gone all in on their current core

The reality is that the Celtics have gone all in on this core, which has shortened the window. With less cap flexibility, it’s going to be harder for the Celtics to continue to build elite supporting casts around the Jays, which puts a lot of pressure on them to win a title in the next three years. Brown has no excuse not to play at a high level and deliver Banner 18 for Celtics nation.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see how Brown and the Celtics respond to the pressure next season.
