When the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty first aired in 2022, most Boston Celtics fans refused to watch out of hatred of the Los Angeles Lakers. What those fans failed to see is that it’s a brilliant show that also includes the Celtics.

With season two approaching in less than two weeks, we at Hardwood Houdini thought we would make a pitch to Cs fans on why they should watch season two.

Winning Time incorporates the Celtics into the show brilliantly, and it’s actually interesting to see the history of the Celtics in the 80s. In season one, Larry Bird and Red Auerbach were featured, and they brought an interesting element to the show. Bird, played by Sean Patrick Small, does a brilliant job of capturing the way Bird was as a competitor to Magic Johnson. Auerbach, played by Michael Chiklis captures the true hatred that every Cs fan has for the Lakers organization and their owner Jerry Buss,

That hatred for the Lakers will only grow in season two as it will cover the Lakers from 1980 to 1984, culminating in the first NBA Finals matchup between Bird and Magic. If there is any season for Cs fans to watch, it’s this one, because the Boston Celtics beat the Lakers in the 1984 NBA Finals. Also, fans will be able to get a glimpse into what it was like for Bird and Magic to compete against each other.

Boston Celtics fans must appreciate this attention, since it doesn’t come often

The Celtics are rarely included in shows like this, so fans should take the opportunity to watch it. Although the show is sometimes satire, some moments are based on true events. The episodes air on Sunday nights, so they are perfect to help get you through the rest of the NBA offseason.

The first episode of Winning Time premiers on Sunday, August 6, on HBO.
