A bright spot of the Boston Celtics offseason so far has been the surprise developments with All-Defensive center Robert Williams III. The big man has recently been working out and posting his latest developments on social media.

A key part of the workouts is that Williams is working on his outside jump shot. Imagine the Timelord with a jumper? It would add a different element to the Boston Celtics, and it’s clear what their vision is for him: to be a complete all-around center.

Robert Williams III needs to show the Boston Celtics more of an offensive game

Williams has reached a point where he needs to add to his game as he has become unreliable in certain spots. Over the last few seasons, the big has become unnecessary to guard for opposing defenses because he virtually has no offensive game outside of lobs. This is why it should be a delight for Cs fans to see Williams work on his outside jumper because the potential is there.

Williams has shown flashes of an outside game, and this past season, he started taking some jump shots. Combine this with the fact that Williams has been an effective free-throw shooter at different points in his career, and there is reason to be excited. I think it just comes down to confidence for Williams, and if the Celtics believe in his ability to shoot, it should go a long way in helping him improve his game.

Although the comparisons of the ultimate vision the Cs have for Williams in terms of Kevin Garnett are extreme, the fact that he is improving his versatility is significant. The Boston Celtics need to become more versatile and not so predictable for opposing defenses. If Williams’ offensive ability can become close to his defensive ability, the Celtics will be dangerous.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see how confident Williams is in his jumper next season.
