When you go on social media and see Boston Celtics fans talking about Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, all you see is that they will win multiple championships. The consensus is that they will without a doubt win championships during their time in Boston, despite signs that point to them potentially winning.

We at the Houdini thought, why not play devil’s advocate in this argument? Here are three reasons why Tatum and Brown will never win a title with the Celtics.

No. 1 reason why Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown won’t win with the Boston Celtics: They may not be together for much longer

One key point that impacts the argument on whether Tatum and Brown win a title or not is how long they stay together. In recent seasons, there have been many factors and signs that point to them splitting up. With constant rumors of the Celtics pursuing other starts and potentially breaking up the core, it’s fair to question how long they stay together.

Also, this offseason could go south with Brown and his looming contract negotiations. The current Brown negotiations are concerning, and they make you question if Brown wants to be with the Cs long-term. If Brown wants out in the next few years, that decreases the likelihood that the Jays win a title.

No. 2 reason why Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown won’t win with the Boston Celtics: They are not a perfect fit

Tatum and Brown are two tremendous individual talents, and that ultimately clouds fans’ judgments of them. Although Tatum and Brown can combine for historic scoring nights as a duo, they are really not a perfect fit. Tatum and Brown are not a complementary fit because they are essentially the same player. They both are primarily isolation players that need the ball in their hands at all times, and they never play off of each other.

When you look back at other historic duos that ran the NBA, they were perfect fits, like Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Tatum and Brown don’t fit perfectly as those other championship duos did.

Unless the Jays find a way to complement each other, they will never win a title.

No. 3 reason why Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown won’t win with the Boston Celtics: They are playoff chokers

The fact that Tatum and Brown have had so many deep playoff runs makes fans fail to realize that in reality, they are playoff chokers. Very few other superstars or star players have ever had this many playoff choke jobs to start their careers than Tatum and Brown. The duo has blown countless series ranging from their rookie season in 2018 to this season against the Miami Heat.

As you start to get deeper into your career, you develop a reputation, and Tatum and Brown have theirs. It’s hard for star players to escape their playoff reputations, and I wonder if Tatum and Brown have what it takes to do that.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see if Tatum and Brown get it done in 2024.
