Brad Stevens under immense pressure to find low-cost talent for Boston Celtics
The Boston Celtics have made it clear that they plan to get under the tax in 2023. The team is ultimately looking to cut costs to pay more than half a billion dollars to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
With that plan, a large amount of pressure has been placed on Brad Stevens to find low-cost talent that can help the team win a title. Ultimately, I wonder if Stevens has what it takes to find that low-cost talent.
This offseason, Stevens has taken a chance on three players: Jordan Walsh, Oshae Brissett, and Jay Scrubb. These three players all share one thing in common in that they are low-cost players with the potential to be contributors. Brissett should be a decent fit for the Celtics, but can he give you minutes in a playoff game? This is the most important question because Brissett is essentially replacing Grant Williams.
Walsh appears to already be a hit for Stevens, as he has excelled in the NBA Summer League. Walsh led the Celtics in Vegas, and he has been generating buzz over his performances. If Walsh projects to be a legitimate rotation player, that is a huge win for Stevens.

Walsh is a perfect example of the Celtics’ new strategy that revolves around money. The Cs want second-round picks like Walsh because he is a cost-controlled player that could have a high ceiling. Stevens is under pressure to find diamond-in-the-rough players, and he appears to have found one with Walsh.
Jay Scrubb could be a Boston Celtics signing from Summer League
Scrubb is another Summer League standout that could benefit the Cs down the road. After signing Scrubb to a two-way contract, they will hope that he is another diamond in the rough. If Scrubb makes the active roster and gives them anything of value, it will be a win for Stevens.
Ultimately, I would say that the Cs are in good hands with Stevens, and he should excel in finding low-cost talent.
