How should Boston Celtics fans feel about in-season tournament?
The NBA announced this weekend their plans for an in-season tournament that will feature all 30 teams. This announcement has led to mixed reactions from NBA fanbases due to the rules and structure of the tournament — and the Boston Celtics will be affected by the tournament because they have a real shot at winning it.
This ultimately begs the question: how should Boston Celtics fans feel about the tournament?
I imagine most Celtics fans love the idea of the tournament because Boston will have an easy draw. The Cs will face a cupcake group stage, which will most likely set them up to make the semifinals.
Barring the Boston Celtics resting players, they should have a great shot at winning the tournament.
I think it’s great that Cs fans feel this way, but ultimately, I think they are missing the point. The whole idea of an in-season tournament goes against the overall tradition of the sport, and it ruins the integrity.
The loss of tradition and constant change in the sport has been my main gripe with the NBA Commissioner Adam Silver because I think he has made too many changes.
The changes to the All-Star game and playoffs have been decent but not what we all hoped they would be. It just goes to show that Silver and the league only care about profit and not the overall integrity of the sport. Having an in-season tournament is a disgrace to all the legends of the game and the founders of the sport as it’s just one big money grab.
In-season tournament not in the best interest of the Boston Celtics
The overall reason behind the tournament should have Cs fans frustrated because it’s not in the best interest of the teams and players. I would be concerned that the Boston Celtics could suffer injuries or a case of peaking too early if they go all out to win the tournament.
Ultimately, it will be interesting to see how the Celtics handle the in-season tournament and if fans like the product.
