Mike Gorman has been the voice of the Boston Celtics since 1981, and he has had countless famous calls. Gorman is 77 years old and starting to reach the end of his career. In recent seasons, he has lessened his workload, and it makes you wonder how many years he has left.

Although we all love Gorman, it’s time to start thinking about a successor to the legend. Here are three potential successors to Gorman for the Celtics to consider.

Boston Celtics’ Mike Gorman Successor No. 1: Sean Grande

Sean Grande is the most obvious choice for the Celtics, as he has been with the team for over two decades. Only Johnny Most and Gorman have called more Celtics games than Grande. Grande has also done well with former players, as he has formed a great partnership with Celtics great Cedric Maxwell.

A big reason why Grande deserves the job is because he is excellent with statistics, and he is always teaching the fan. As he has started to fill in for Gorman, he has put his expertise on full display, and it is informative. Although Grande lacks some in the entertainment department, I think he makes up for it with his statistics.

Boston Celtics’ Mike Gorman Successor No. 2: Ian Eagle

Ian Eagle is my number one choice to replace Gorman because he is the total package. Eagle is informative, funny, and entertaining. You never watch a broadcast with Eagle and not walk away saying, “I have never heard that” multiple times.

Eagle is also experienced in the NBA, as he worked for TNT for many years, and he is the current announcer for the Brooklyn Nets. I think Eagle would welcome the Celtic’s role because they are a historic franchise.

I can already imagine how awesome it would be to hear Eagle creating funny sayings for Tatum and Brown.

Boston Celtics’ Mike Gorman Successor No. 3: Mark Jones

Mark Jones is similar to Eagle in that he is a national broadcaster for ESPN, and is the announcer for the Sacramento Kings. Jones is an excellent announcer that is worthy of replacing Gorman because he is entertaining.

Jones has many phrases that he uses that are so great, it makes you want to hear them again. Jones would bring a new level of excitement to Celtics games, and he can work well with any partner.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see who eventually replaces Gorman.
