The Boston Celtics have made major moves this offseason, and they have lost Marcus Smart and Grant Williams and only replaced them with Kristaps Porzingis. To no one’s surprise, Celtics fans have celebrated these moves and applauded Brad Stevens for his work.

Ultimately, Celtics fans are unable to pull back the curtain and examine the offseason to this point. When you pull back the curtain, you will see that the offseason has been wildly overrated.

The simple fact of this offseason so far for the Cs is that they got worse. Replacing Smart and Williams with Porzingis does not make you a better team. Although Porzingis is a better player than Smart and Williams, he does not solve the Celtic’s main issues. His talent alone does not make this the right move because there are other important factors.

The lack of toughness that the Celtics now possess after this offseason is concerning, but I don’t see many fans talking about this. The Celtics currently have almost zero toughness on their roster, and it’s crazy considering they lost to the Miami Heat this past postseason and the Golden State Warriors in 2022 because of a lack of toughness.

Who is even the toughest player on the team now? Al Horford? Derrick White? The lack of an answer to this question and the fact that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are not in that discussion is a major concern.

The Boston Celtics do not have enough talent to win it all after landing bevy of future second-round draft picks

The other reason why the Boston Celtics offseason has been wildly overrated is the accumulation of second-round picks. Picks are fine because it helps the team financially, but it does not help you win this year. The whole focus should be to win now before the supermax extensions for Tatum and Brown kick in, and that is not being prioritized with the accumulation of picks.

NBA windows are short, and the Cs could be blowing an opportunity to maintain an elite roster by going for all of these picks.

Ultimately, it will be interesting to see if the Boston Celtics add more or are just content with what they have because it is currently not enough.
