Boston Celtics send Malcolm Brogdon north of the border to Toronto

What if the Boston Celtics went all in, in terms of trying to maximize the return for Brogdon? Could they send him to the Toronto Raptors for some serious wing depth?

Probably not, to be honest. But let’s have some fun and mess around with the idea of Boston getting their hands on O.G. Anunoby. First and foremost, the salaries match with Anunoby being under contract for the next two seasons, making an average of $18.6 million.

Toronto’s in this weird spot where they don’t seem to know if they want to rebuild or not. Fred VanVleet just left town, electing to join the Houston Rockets. Pascal Siakam’s future is shaky, as he’s been pinned a prime trade candidate this summer. If they decide to blow up the roster, offloading Anunoby could be part of the process.

The 25-year-old’s value has to be at an all-time high right now. He was just named to the NBA’s All-Defensive second-team, marking the first selection of his career. Plus, Anunoby had a great year on the offensive end, averaging 16.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.9 steals per game. The U.K. native was efficient as well, knocking down 47.6% of his attempts from the field and 38.7% of those from distance.

Boston would likely have to cough up a good amount of draft compensation in order to even get the Raptors’ attention. Who knows if they could even do that, let-alone strike up a deal with Masai Ujiri.
