Does Jaylen Brown even want to play for the Boston Celtics?
Multiple NBA franchises have signed their eligible All-NBA stars to extensions this offseason. The Sacramento Kings extended Domantas Sabonis, the Charlotte Hornets with Lamelo Ball, and the Indiana Pacers with Tyrese Haliburton — but the Boston Celtics have shockingly still not signed Jaylen Brown to his max extension, and there has hardly been any chatter about it.
This begs the question: does Brown even want to be a Celtic?
Brown’s situation is peculiar and to my recollection, we have not seen anything like this. The fact that Brown, who is eligible for a supermax extension that could be worth over $300 million, has not signed it is very concerning. It makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes.
The only real report on the situation is from Adam Himmelsbach, who said that Brown and the Celtics have yet to jump into contract negotiations. I find it utterly baffling that the two sides have yet to talk about the extension, and it makes me question if there is a rift between Brown and the team.
Do the Celtics not want Brown? Or does Brown not want the Celtics?
I think the second question is a real possibility, and there were signs of that throughout last season. Brown voiced his frustration with his role, the city, and his lack of respect many times last season. I wonder if Brown is second-guessing being in Boston long term and that is a real concern.
The only other thing that I could think of is that the Boston Celtics are working on something bigger, and they want to do Brown’s extension later. If this is true, the Celtics are truly toying with their fans right now.
When will negotiations begin between Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics?
Ultimately, it will be interesting to see what happens if and when the negotiations between Brown and the Boston Celtics begin. If they begin soon, the Cs could then move onto the other roster questions it faces this season and beyond.
But if there’s no noise on the extension front, there could be a relocation coming for the team’s current longest-tenured Celtic.
