Celtics: 2 Free agent targets that got away, 3 to still pursue for 2024

Boston Celtics free agent target to still pursue: 3. Terence Davis
Davis went undrafted in 2019 before signing with the Raptors and quickly cracking the rotation. He was traded to the Kings in 2021 for a second-round pick, but the 26-year-old has shown flashes during his first four NBA seasons. Davis averages 8.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in just 16.1 minutes per game for his career.
HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto mentioned the Celtics as one of four teams with interest in Davis. The unrestricted free agent is likely looking for a larger role and more than the minimum on the open market, but he has yet to find the right deal.
The Boston Celtics guard and wing rotations are in flux after trading Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies. They still have a glut of options, but where would Davis fit in? Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will take the lion’s share of the minutes on the wing, but the front office is likely looking at Davis as a bench option that can give them some scoring punch.
Boston will likely only have minimum contracts to hand out as they look to stay under the NBA’s new second tax apron. That keeps them out of any big-name sweepstakes, but who is the best player the Celtics can get on a minimum?
