5 Biggest threats to sign Grant Williams away from Celtics in free agency

4. San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs drafted Victor Wembanyama number one overall, and they want to add pieces around the most-hyped prospect since LeBron James. San Antonio is not going to mortgage their future, but they want the team to be competitive.
The Spurs have $34 million in cap space to improve the worst defense in the league from last season. They need a point guard, but Williams could be the perfect option on the wing. He is going to knock down open shots created Victor Wembanyama and defend multiple positions. San Antonio needs more versatility and perimeter defense around the 7’4 big man, which makes Williams a logical target.
Will the Spurs target the restricted free agent? A few veteran point guards have already been ruled out, but San Antonio is keeping their plans well-guarded. They have the cap space to make a play for Grant Williams above where the Celtics could match.
One advantage for Williams would be playing time. If the Spurs sign him, they will likely play him 30-plus minutes per game, which the Celtics were hesitant to do during his first four NBA seasons. Boston has Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown eating up the majority of those minutes, and playing time could be what forces Williams to another franchise.
