5 Malcolm Brogdon trades for Celtics after Marcus Smart move: Minnesota Timberwolves
Getting forward help could be a potential priority for the Celtics, but changing up the outlook of the guard position could be another pathway worth considering this summer.
Rather than a score-first, three-point specialist point guard, the Celtics would be snagging a playmaking guard in Mike Conley, who has brought winning wherever he goes.
He helped the Utah Jazz remain competitive this past season, and when he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, he helped them push for the postseason and land the eighth seed.
For Boston, he would be the perfect backup point guard behind Derrick White. Conley would be able to organize the offense, hit his open threes, and provide a veteran presence in the locker room.
Plus, if the Celtics are looking to clear the books a bit moving forward, Conley will be on an expiring deal next year.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves would add more shooting to their roster and would be able to put the ball in Malcolm Brogdon’s hands more than the Celtics can.
Brogdon’s shooting and shot creation would be a nice addition to the lineup, especially if the Timberwolves decide to explore Karl-Anthony Towns trades this summer.
The Timberwolves seemingly like Conley, so there’s a chance they would turn down most offers, but this would at least be worth considering for both sides.
Potential starting lineups
Celtics: Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams, Kristaps Porzingis
Timberwolves: Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, Karl-Anthony Towns, Rudy Gobert
