5 Malcolm Brogdon trades for Celtics after Marcus Smart move
By Jack Simone
The Boston Celtics shocked the NBA world this past week when they traded long-time point guard Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team deal that landed them Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards, pivoting from a previous deal that included Malcolm Brogdon.
Many expected Smart to be a Celtic for his entire career, but Brad Stevens proved that he’s willing to put winning a championship above all else, no matter how hard the decisions are.
But before the Smart trade went through, Boston had another deal on the table. One that would have sent Brogdon to the LA Clippers and kept Smart in Boston.
However, in the final hour of the trade, the Clippers made a U-turn, deciding that they weren’t comfortable trading for Brogdon, as they didn’t have time to conduct a full physical.

Now, Smart is gone, and Brogdon is still on the Celtics. But it is a realistic option to keep him on the team heading into next season?
Brogdon knows that he was almost traded. All the reports are out there, and it can’t be a great feeling to know that the team you play for was willing to trade you.
The Celtics still have Derrick White and Payton Pritchard on the roster, so if they wanted to explore potential Brogdon trades, they would be fine at the point guard position.
Trading Brogdon could allow the Celtics to add extra help at the wing and forward positions while simultaneously moving the player who was almost dealt in the first place.
With that in mind, here are five Brogdon trades the Celtics should consider following the new-look Porzingis deal.
