Heading into the summer, one of the more underrated point guard free-agent targets that could arise is Patrick Beverley. And if the Celtics do find themselves in a position where they want to replace some of the defensive intensity and overall locker room presence that they lost when they traded Marcus Smart, there may not be a better-discounted player to target than Beverley.

Beverley has bounced all over the league but you know what you’re going to get with him – and it’s a player that’s going to give a team 100 percent night in and night out. He may not be the most talented free agent available but much of his value is not quantified by anything he can do statistically.

Perhaps the only question that could hold up a potential pursuit of Beverley revolves around how much he realistically has left in the tank. He’s going to be 35 years old by the time next season begins and being an undersized point guard won’t do him any favors.

After being traded to the Bulls this past season, Beverley averaged six points, five rebounds, and three assists per game. If he does have anything left to give, he could be an intriguing possibility for the Celtics.
