Davion Mitchell, Sacramento Kings

Another potential high-ceiling trade target that the Boston Celtics could explore this offseason is Davion Mitchell. The 24-year-old guard is coming off an up-and-down second season in Sacramento. He saw his bright moments but only averaged six points on 45 percent shooting from the field in only 18 minutes of action per game.

Mitchell took somewhat of a step back this past season and it has to be sitting in the back of the Sacramento Kings’ minds heading into the offseason.

The Kings did select a guard (Colby Jones) after trading back into the second round of the 2023 NBA Draft and perhaps that could help Sacramento be more willing to trade Mitchell heading into this summer. Assuming that the Kings are sold on De’Aaron Fox, there could be a path toward moving Mitchell before it’s time to give him a big contract extension. That would be the thinking behind the Kings trading him this offseason, if it would even come to that.

Either way, you’d have to imagine that the package for Mitchell would have to be costly. But maybe the Kings would be interested in an offer centered around Grant Williams (sign and trade) and a future first-round pick or two? I’d throw out a feeler If I was the Celtics.
