10 Point guard trade targets for Boston Celtics after losing Marcus Smart
Dejounte Murray, Atlanta Hawks
If the Boston Celtics wanted to make another big splash that involved more of a playmaking guard, there is one potential target within the Atlanta Hawks organization that could make sense. And I’m not talking about Trae Young, which would be an interesting option in itself. Nevertheless, Dejounte Murray is a player that could emerge as a target if the Hawks are serious about making a big retooling move this offseason.
And the Celtics have the flexibility and assets to pull off such a deal. Theoretically, the Celtics could trade Malcolm Brogdon, Payton Pritchard, and staple two future first-round draft picks to entice the Hawks to make it work. If the Hawks aren’t sold on the long-term duo of Young and Murray, that’s an offer they would have to listen to – especially considering a decision on Murray’s possible contract extension is coming up.
For as “bad” or “down” of a season Murray had in Atlanta, he still managed to average 21 points, six assists, and five rebounds on 46 percent shooting from the field. He’s an underrated playmaker and would be an intriguing addition next to Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis. If the Celtics really wanted to make a huge move, Murray could be the target.
