The Boston Celtics have been active this offseason as they have traded Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies, acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards, and were active on draft night. The Celtics accumulated four future second-round picks in Thursday’s NBA draft, and it could mean that the team is preparing for a big move.

A big move that could be looming for the Boston Celtics is trading for Atlanta Hawks All-Star guard Dejounte Murray.

The Celtics have been linked to Murray for many years dating back to his days with the San Antonio Spurs. Boston now has a real need at point guard after the Smart trade and because Malcolm Brogdon could be moved as well. Murray has also become available as the Hawks are looking to potentially start a rebuild.

Brad Stevens stockpiling picks makes this interesting because I think he could be making a run at Murray. Why else would Stevens be looking to stack up second-round picks? There has to be a move coming, and I think it could be Murray.

Murray would be a perfect fit for the Celtics because he is a tough-minded guard that is only 26 years old. Murray would be a huge upgrade over Smart, and he would be a true point guard. He also would fit the Celtics’ timeline, and he is on a relatively cheap deal. The only issue would be that Murray and Porzingis would be free agents in 2024, but the Celtics could look to resign both of them or trade one for a better asset.

Dejounte Murray could be a potential Boston Celtics trade steal

I think this move is in play for the Boston Celtics, and I don’t think that they would have to give up much to get him.

Stevens should be on the phone with the Hawks’ front office as soon as humanly possible because adding Murray would make these Celtics the definitive favorite to win the 2024 NBA championship.
