The NBA trade that should scare Boston Celtics fans

2023’s NBA offseason is in full swing, and major moves are occurring across the NBA. The Suns recently acquired Bradley Beal, which has changed the course of the league — and though the trade does not affect the Boston Celtics much, there is one rumored trade that would negatively affect them.

The aforementioned trade that should scare the Cs and their fanbase is a proposal to send Damian Lillard to the Miami Heat.

The Boston Celtics, as currently constituted, should be the favorite to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals next year. However, if the Heat can land Lillard, they would become the favorite, and the Celtics would be in trouble. The Lillard trade rumors should scare C’s fans because he would vault the Heat into elite status.

The Heat were up 3-0 on the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals and the series was not as close as it finished. Miami has more toughness than the Celtics and would have a more talented big three if they land Lillard. Although most of the reports state that Lillard wants to stay in Portland, I do think he will leave this off-season after realiing that he only has a couple of years left in his prime and his chances of winning a title are dwindling.

Miami is already the team the Boston Celtics must get through to escape the Eastern Conference

The Celtics should be worried because the Heat are the team to beat in the East. With the way other contenders in the East are trending, I think the Heat are the only team standing in the way of the Celtics making it back to the Finals. If Lillard gets traded to the Heat, the C’s would have to make a countermove to improve their chances of beating the Heat.

Ultimately, Boston Celtics fans should gather with their friends and family to pray that the Heat don’t land Lillard.
