Grant Williams – Indiana Pacers

It was a strange season for Grant Williams, whose role was all over the place throughout the year. The forward will now hit restricted free agency. While that means the Celtics can match any offer made to him, they may have a certain price range in mind that teams could exceed. One such team could be the Indiana Pacers, who Yahoo Sports Jake Fischer reports are expected to show interest in Williams. With around $27 million in cap space, Indiana is a legitimate threat to steal Williams.

It’s no secret that the Pacers are looking for a starting forward this off-season. ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst has reported that Indiana is willing to trade the seventh overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft if they can get a high-level wing. Williams might not be worth that pick, but the lengths the Pacers are seemingly willing to go to get a starter like Williams are apparent. He’d fit in nicely with the Pacers, giving them the starting forward they have longed for while providing excellent defense and strong perimeter shooting.

Veteran NBA insider Marc Stein (Subscription required) reported earlier this year that Williams is seeking a deal in the $20 million annually range. That certainly seems a bit steep for the Celtics, given how much money they have promised elsewhere on the roster. With that, it’s a legitimate possibility that the Boston Celtics will lose him to a team with significant cap space like Indiana.
