Are Boston Celtics fans torn on whether Joe Mazzulla is the right guy for the HC job?
Joe Mazzulla was given a tough task this season as the head coach of the Boston Celtics: he had to deal with the pressure of coaching Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as well as being the favorite to win the title. Although Mazzulla failed to deliver a title, he still had a decent season.
Despite this, I have seen on social media the disconnect between Celtics fans and Mazzulla, and it begs the question: Are Celtics fans not in agreement on whether Mazzulla is the guy?
I ask this question because as I have scrolled through the comments on recent posts regarding the team’s addition of Charles Lee, I have found a clear disconnect with Celtics fans. There have been posts highlighting Mazzulla and others that feel that he is not the right head coach; the clear difference in opinion among Celtics fans is interesting, and I can’t remember a time when it was this split for a C’s head coach.
This is a bad sign because the fanbase is taking it out on the wrong person.
Mazzulla did a good job this season, considering the circumstances. He had the Celtics right where they have always been in the playoffs, but the players didn’t finish the job. More pressure should be applied on Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown than Mazzulla.
This situation is ultimately why I find the feelings of Boston Celtics fans about Mazzulla so thought-provoking.
Joe Mazzulla will be with the Boston Celtics for the long haul
Boston Celtics fans just have to realize that Mazzulla is going to be here for the next three to five years, and he will get better. The disconnect among Celtic fans should ultimately shift to the players because that’s what matters in the NBA. The coaches only play a minor role compared to the star players in that league.
Ultimately, the Joe Mazzulla discourse among Boston Celtics fans should get interesting next season.
