Ranking Celtics among 8 teams that should pursue Chris Paul immediately
By Tyler Watts
2. LA Clippers
Paul spent six seasons with the Clippers from 2011 to 2017 where they were annually one of the league’s best teams but suffered heartbreak in the postseason. CP3 was in his prime and the Clippers had their first real chance at playoff success since the 1970s. He still lives in Los Angeles in the offseason and would certainly have plenty of interest in returning.
The Clippers are projected to be well over the second tax apron this summer, but the roster restrictions are supposed to be phased in over two years. This could be LA’s last chance to add talent to their current group. They needed a point guard last season, and Russell Westbrook gave them a boost after being bought out.
The Clippers will be looking to sign another point guard on the cheap this summer, and there will not be a better option than Chris Paul available at their asking price. He would give LA another health question mark, but the Clippers’ only chance at winning a ring with this group is gambling that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George can stay healthy for an entire playoff run. Why not add CP3 to that list if already betting on a long shot?
The Clippers will have plenty of competition to sign Paul, including from their across-the-hall neighbors in Los Angeles.
