In a proposed 3-team megadeal that would give the Boston Celtics core a facelift, The Ringer’s Brian Barrett sent away Jaylen Brown to the Magic and Marcus Smart/Robert Williams III to the Raptors to land Pascal Siakam, Markelle Fultz, Wendell Carter Jr, and Franz Wagner. Orlando would also give its two 2023 first-round picks to Toronto.

Barrett felt that getting two potential franchise pillars in Siakam and Wagner, even if they are not at the level of Brown, makes the complicated scenario one worth exploring for the Celtics this offseason.

“From a Celtics perspective, you get another wing to replace Jaylen in Pascal Siakam, who’s a good player,” Barrett said (h/t Heavy Sports). “You can argue the two guys; if you wanna have a debate who’s better, Jaylen had a better season. I kinda like this idea for the Celtics, right? Even if I think that in a vacuum, Jaylen is a better player than Siakam, I’m also getting Wagner as part of the equation.”

The Boston Celtics would be bigger after trade proposal

It’s tough to tell if the new Celtics roster would be better than the old one following Barrett’s proposal, but it’s undeniable that the team would be bigger in the frontcourt. With Wagner and Carter standing at six-foot-10 and Siakam sporting a seven-foot-three wingspan, the team would certainly be taller and have more length.

Again, there’s no guarantee it’d result in more wins, but on paper, the Cs could potentially have a higher ceiling in this hypothetical scenario with increased physical advantages.

The Boston Celtics would finally get Markelle Fultz after 2017 draft-week trade

After six years, the Boston Celtics could finally land Fultz after essentially trading him away during the week of the 2017 NBA draft for the rights to the No. 3 pick. That pick ended up being Jayson Tatum.

Fultz has not yet had the career many projected of him coming out of Washington and being selected No. 1 overall. Injuries have altered his shot mechanics and he’s not yet shot over 31% from the 3-point line in his career.

While he wouldn’t be the starter in Boston, since Derrick White and Malcolm Brogdon would still be options in the backcourt after this trade, Fultz can continue his upward trajectory the past two seasons in Orlando.
