If Jaylen Brown is set to be a goner this offseason or next, one proposal concocted by Sir Charles in Charge’s Micheal Saenz would be a near-best-case scenario for the Boston Celtics in the short and long term.

Saenz’s proposal would see Brown reunite with former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, hired by the Rockets on April 24, with the Cs bringing back a future star in Jalen Green, forward Jae’Sean Tate, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft, and a 2028 first-round pick.

Although they entered the league under different circumstances, Green’s second season in the league saw him average more points (22.1) than Brown did in both his rookie season (6.6) and second season (14.5) combined.

Jalen Green is ideal building block for Boston Celtics in a Jaylen Brown return package

It’s not often you’ll see the Houdini embrace the idea of a Brown trade, barring in the scenario of a previous trade request, since getting rid of a 27-point-per-game stud to get closer to a title worked only one time in recent NBA history when the Raptors traded DeMar DeRozan. Of course, that was the deal that brought Kawhi Leonard, and eventually a first franchise championship, to Toronto as well.

In the scenario of flipping Brown for Green plus extras, though, the upside is too undeniable to ignore. While Green is not the defender Brown has become, at 21 years old, there’s plenty of time for the gap to be closed. With the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, the Boston Celtics could attempt to find a two-way star wing via Ausar Thompson or Brandon Miller. Plus, if the Rockets get aggressive trading away picks in the coming years, that 2028 pick could have high upside if it all crashes down within the next half decade.

Green is the kind of building block a Brown trade should be centered around. Kudos to Saenz for being realistic about Brown’s value, though, and putting forward an offer that all front offices would need to ponder.
