The Boston Celtics have some tough decisions to make with not much time to make them.

With Jaylen Brown making the All-NBA 2nd Team, he is now eligible for a Supermax extension. However, after a disappointing eastern conference final series, many Celtics fans are making the case to trade the star player, claiming he’s not worth the massive extension and should have great value despite having 1 year left on his contract.

Whether he should be traded or not, Brad Stevens will do due diligence on potential trades for the star wing player. With all the rumors going around about a potential trade, it’s likely the front office will receive trades as well as consider proposing trades revolving around Brown.

It’s hard to find a perfect trade for a star player like Brown, especially if it’s assumed the Celtics still want to win now rather than rebuild, but there are a few potential trades that will at least get the Celtics thinking about pulling the trigger.

Boston Celtics’ too-little trade package

This is a trade that the Boston Celtics would more likely receive rather than offer themselves, hence the package being too little for a worthy Brown trade package.

In this scenario, the Celtics would be getting back a good point guard who isn’t the best outside shooter, but a great defender and two-point specialist in Dejounte Murray. They’d also be revamping their frontcourt options with John Collins and Onyeka Okongwu, both good, young options at PF and C respectively. Finally, the Celtics would be acquiring a good backup wing player, something they’ve lacked in recent years.

While the package is a good one for the Cs, the value just isn’t there for both Brown and Malcolm Brogdon, especially if the Celtics still want to win now. If they are less worried about winning now, then the Hawks would have to throw in a couple of first-round picks, which gets to a point where neither team may be all that interested.

From Atlanta’s perspective, this makes a ton of sense, as Jaylen is likely to resign due to his hometown ties, and also is a major upgrade over Dejounte Murray as a second option. Their frontcourt would get weaker, but they still would have Clint Capela and plenty of options for small ball fours next to him, such as De’Andre Hunter.
