Have you ever opened the fridge and grabbed a carton of milk to drink out of, and it tasted sour? Did you also then check to see if it was expired before throwing it away? The Boston Celtics core has become the same thing, as they have once again left a sour taste in fans’ mouths following a devastating Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat.

Just like the sour milk, this Celtics core has reached its expiration date.

The core of Marcus Smart, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum have been together for six seasons, and they have yet to break through with a championship. They have had years where they choked, most recently in the last two seasons. The Finals’ loss to the Golden State Warriors a year ago was a choke job by the Boston Celtics because they held a 2-1 lead and had Game 4 at home.

Following that loss, I had given them the benefit of the doubt, but this year is different.

The Cs were the overwhelming favorite to win the title, and all season they said that they had learned from last year. Not only did the Celtics not win the title, but they completely lied to our faces. They didn’t learn a thing from last year’s loss because the reasons why they lost the title last year came up this year.

More importantly, they still continue to act like a team that has already won a title, when in reality, they have done nothing but let their fanbase down.

The Boston Celtics are running out of options

There are very few options left for the Boston Celtics to make this right. They have gone through three different head coaches, changed the front office, and brought in different supporting casts. I think it’s now time to examine the core and potentially make changes.

The core has reached its expiration date, and the organization has no one to blame but itself.
