How did we get here? The Boston Celtics are down 0-3 in the Eastern Conference Finals to the No. 8 seeded Heat, and elimination from the NBA postseason — and a slew of questions regarding the direction of the team moving forward — is seemingly imminent.

Miami was dominant during the series’ first game in the Sunshine State, knocking down a scorching 54.3% from the 3-point line on 35 attempts and 56.8% shooting overall on May 21. Boston was the opposite, knocking down just 26% of their 3-pointers in 42 attempts and just 39% overall.

Those numbers speak volumes as to why the Celtics are not only down in the series, but bereft of momentum as well following a 128-102 demolition at the hands of a Heat team that looks set to complete one of the least likely Eastern Conference Championship run in some time.

Jimmy Butler is going to take the rubber match series with the Jayson Tatum/Jaylen Brown Celtics, a back-and-forth rivalry that started in the Disney World bubble back in 2020, continued in the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals, and seemingly concludes here in 2023.
