The opening game of the Eastern Conference Finals was the kind of disasterclass that only the 2022-23 Boston Celtics can deliver: clearly outclass their opponent, in this case, the No. 8-seeded Heat, then coast in the second half so much that now the Cs are trailing. Boston never came back from a 46-point third quarter, and they now trail Miami in the series.

So much for that 3% chance ESPN Analytics gave the Heat. Miami is now three games away from knocking off the Celtics in the last four years.

Game 2 is a borderline must-have for Boston as home-court advantage has slipped out of their grasp. Can Joe Mazzulla make the necessary adjustments to keep the Celtics’ Banner 18 hopes alive?

Boston Celtics vs Miami Heat Prediction

The Houdini was fooled, as has been a constant this season, by the Celtics in thinking that Boston would show the world why the sportsbooks have tabbed them as one of the primary threats to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy. Time and again, there’s been misplaced trust in thinking the Cs would look more dominant than they did during their last run to the Finals. The same Game 1 struggles have persisted for the second year in a row.

But the same result still feels inevitable. If/when the Celtics get back to the Finals, Game 2 will serve as a turning point in this series.
